On this past Sat. just after attending a fallen soldiers benefit ride here in Il. the OL and I were on our way home. We had just about made it into town and was on a 1 mile stretch with a guard rail on the side of the road.
Up ahead about a 1/2 mile ahead I noticed a SUV coming at us. It was 7pm and plenty of light out. I noticed the SUV begin to cross over the center line coming into our lane.
I ride in the left side of my lane all the time and had begun to cross over into the right side all the while watching the SUV and starting to shut down the bike while trying to figure what we were going to do if I get ran off the road.
The wife was screaming, I was in the far right side of the lane while the SUV was still coming and was now in the center of my lane and still coming!!! At about 50-75yds he jerked it back into his lane while I was on the white line and praying he'd pass us without hitting us and without me going off the road into the guard rail. No one would have seen us for we were the only ones there!!
I finally got past him, made it into town and stopped at the light on the edge of town. All I could do was shake like a dog and for this is the first time I have had a close call with the OL with me. It took a few hours for my ear to calm down from her screaming and my ribs to go back into place from her squeezing them out of me.
I never had a chance to see what was driving or what they were doing to cause it or even a plate for it happened all so fast!! When we hit the light in town, the OL said to go back and find them. I would if I were alone, but not with her along. I was hopeing they would have came back to find us to see if we were alright. I was, they would have not been!!!!!

I'd have turned around and found his/her sorry **** and kicked it until the cops came. Stupid cagers never pay attention and still killing riders, you could have been killed here and no one would've known for some time.
Glad both of you are still here and able to tell us the story.
I ride in the Atlanta, Georgia area traffic nearly everyday and now find that if only 3 or 4 cages try to run me over, it was a rather uneventful day...
Glad to hear you survived it all in one piece. It is crazy out there, they were probably texting while driving. Today on the way to the mountains, I passed a prison transport bus and thought there must be riot going on with how much it was swaying down the interstate. Nope, just the guard texting with his phone while driving with a bus full of county prisoners.
Nearly had a "head on" with a d_ckhead who had decided to pass a line of cars (he passed over a double yellow on a blind curve). . . the line of cars had stopped for someone making a left hand turn!
I had the same reaction - wanted to turn around and shoot the dumb_uck . .
It was a good thing my honey WAS with me . .
Been there done that - my old lady doesn't get too excited in those situations because she thinks I will always be able to handle it. She does get upset when she hears me talking about situations when she's not with me. She knows I will turn around and proceed to open up a can of whip-butt on the offender. In reality I have only done that twice in all the years I have been riding - most times its just not a good idea. Now its one day at a time and I never sweat the small stuff.
Good to hear you made it okay. I was just reading a mag article where a Gold Wing was run off the road into a guard rail - the rider lost his arm in the mishap.
Now the Ol knows why I carried those "Useless" rusty old 3/4" and 1" nuts and bolts in my vest pocket!!!!!!! She mink oiled the vests last winter along with the leathers and took them out. I told her that that would have been a perfect place for them if I would have had the time and notion to do so.
"But officer, I REALLY don't have a clue how those wound up in his/her grill and headlights"!!?!?!??!?! Must have been from the vehicle in front of them, don't they remeber what it looked like, for I KNOW they were paying attention!!!!!!! RIGHT MY ***!!!!!!!!!!
