Default Thoughts on 7 year warranty.

Worth the money? Or is it a gimmick?

It's KILLER profit for the selling dealership & salesman.

The MoCo gives an excellent warranty with the bike. If something is gonna take a crap, 9 times out'a 10 it's gonna happen during the period during which you have the HD included warranty. Furthermore, the "extended warranty" is really an insurance policy that is paid by a 3rd party, not HD.

No way I'd blow that kinda $$ on it!

I do not personally believe in them. To much of a money maker for the dealership and the selling company. But then again, I dont seem to keep one long enough to need it.

their claim to fame is that you can get a refund on the unused portion if you sell the bike....it is prorated and not in your favor.

If you have absolutely no interest in making your own small repairs after the manufacturer warranty ends, then IMO a short add on warranty of 2 years might be good. Seven years? A complete waste.

Never finance a warranty. If you finance any warranty and don't pay cash up front for it, you will get shafted by having to pay more interest on the whole deal. That's what I call a raw deal.

Harley will get a lot of your money and you will probably get nothing. Extended warranties where thought up to make the dealer money not save you anything.
Don't be fooled by the one guy how saved a butt load on a repair he is the rare exception.

It depends. How much do you ride?

I plan on putting 30,000 miles a year on my Limited (and I'm on pace to exceed that this year). Out of those miles, roughly 15,000~20,000 miles will be on trips away from home. The remaining 10,000~15,000 miles will be commuting to and from work and local pleasure riding.

The 7 year ESP with tire & wheel coverage cost me a little less than $1,500, or around $17 a month. For that $17 I get...

- $200 worth of towing reimbursement.

- After the 2 year initial warranty expires, a $50 deductible for repairs.

- No deductible for tire and wheel damage.

- Hotel and rental reimbursement if the bike's incapacitated at night or for more than a day.

When the two year warranty expires, I'll have over 60,000 miles on the bike. If the crank shifts....It's $50. Stator burns up? $50. ABS goes freaky? $50. At the rate I ride, I'll still be covered when the bike has over 200,000 miles on it. On top of that, I work in construction. In the 7 months I've owned the bike, I've picked up nails in the tires twice....The bills were $550 for the first one (including the tow), and $425 for the second one. My ESP is more than half paid for.

If you barhop, the ESP is a waste of money. If you trade your bike in every couple of years, the ESP is a waste of money. If you keep your bikes for a long time and ride the **** out of them, it's money in the bank.
