Interesting comments, not like Cycle World to praise the HD products. HD doesnt do much advertising with them, they are generally favorable to the metrics. Nice to see a good review from a source that does more than just cover American motorcycles.
Those other bikes are just cheap imitations of a Harley. The V twin is an antiquated design but it works and sounds great. A Harley wouldn't be a Harley without it. If I were trying to design a new touring bike for the 21st century it wouldn't be a V twin, it would be a fresh modern design. They should build their own bikes and not try to cut into Harley's market with imitations. I hate those bikes and they have no validity, to me at least, because they are trying to ride on Harley's coattails and steal marketshare.
Oh yea, the V twin is the V twin just like Harley is a Harley. It's not perfect but its a Harley.
It should have been labled "V Twin" baggers or "Cruser" Bagger comparrason because they didn't include the BMW K1200LT, we all know how that comparason would go. And if I were trying to design a new Bagger for the 22nd centruy it would be the Beemer because she is perfect.

One of the more *imperfect* BMW's to many. Actually the K1200LT is no longer being made. BMW is bringing out the 6 cyl K1600GT and GTL, it's already been officially announced. Here are some details. http://www.webbikeworld.com/BMW-moto...bmw-k-1600-gt/
Or read the forums on the Iron Butt site about all the driveline failures, that BMW finally has admitted they have a problem. One of their models was purported to have a "maintainance free" final drive. Now, owners are told to service them every 6,000 miles.

If you think the beemer is so perfect, why are you in the Harley forum ???
I'm not a "Harley guy" like most of the folks on this forum. I'm a more of a "I use what works" kinda person. I love all bikes. I don't hate or love any single bike or manufacturer. I'm simply drawn to Harleys because they are without a doubt in my mind the best in the cruiser category.
That said, the outcome in this comparison does not surprise me a bit. Take the name plate off of each of these bikes and actually own and ride each one and you'll probably end up with the Harley every time. Proven design. Old or not it works. They may not use the newest technology, they may not have the best in class performance, but they do arguably have the absolute best experience for the rider. They are a blast to ride, easy to own, and they are just fun to have.
I could and would own 100 different bikes if I had the money, but I would always own a least one bike from the Harley touring line.
They are just that great of a bike...
