Installed V&H true dual headers with the eagle beak turn down mufflers yesterday. Torque all nuts on the exhaust flange except the rear. Used the smallest 1/2 " socket but still could not get get over the nut because of the pipe bend, is there a special tool for this? I have not tried a wrench because it would not have a torque value but it may come to that. Has anyone else had a problem installing the supplied T62 clamp thur the stock support bracket under the transmision cover, I had to use the the stock chrome clamp. Would anyone crank it over if they didn't have a fuel management, I'm waiting on my SE A/C and Power commander that got screw up by UPS but would love to hear what these pipes sound like.
Crank it over and take it for a ride. Manifold nuts are tricky with the clearance, just get em as tight as you can with a small wrench and rachet. Snug em down again after the motor gets hot.
I had the same problem putting on the Bassani true duals on my Street Glide. I ended up using a couple of extensions and very carefully turned it good and hard. I did the same method bountyhunter stated by taking it for a ride, letting it heat up and then getting the wrenches on it again. Got another quarter maybe half turn off the rear cyclinder. As much as I wanted to ride it before my PCIII came in, I waited. Only because a few weekends before a friend did the same and rode without fuel management and got some nice yellow on the pipes and on the front right shield. I did start mine up for a couple of minutes though, I got to hear it and check for leaks.
Oh Yes, it was almost as good as sex. I manage to get a 1/4 socket on it. Then I fired it up it wa so sweeeeeeeeet, but I only let it run for about five minutes and then retighten everything. Wait until my wife hears it espically my daughter. Come on UPS !
I know what you are feeling AceHog.
When I put my V&H True dual on it was pure music. When I took it for a spin, it was like stereo when I turned my head. Never did hear the exhaust on the left side before. I used a stubby wrench on the back cylinder.

i just installed VH Tru duals yesterday. sound is sweet with my spo's.... now i used SE exhaust gaskets and i have a leak at the heads so i will pull them back off soon and fix but for the record i also scraped the supplied tranny mount clamp and reused the stocker. also used a hand wrench on the back cly bolts. never cared much for tourq values been wrenchin too long..... one thing i did run into that i wanted to ask, when the ffront header went in and all was tightend down it had to lift slightly to fit the tranny mounts curve, this pulled it up enough to make the slip on hard as hell to get pushed on. did you have this trouble? .... but overall i love them money well spent
Thier great sounding aren't they. Did you use the two washers supplied for the floor board for the front header? I don't know why they supplied that T 62 clamp it will never fit thur that mount. I replace the gaskets with the ones I got from Direct even though The new ones didn't look as thick as the ones I took out, but no leaks.

Just torque the nuts you can get the tq wrench on, then put an open end/box wrench on the same nut and get an idea of the "tightness".
Then you can put the box wrench on the other nut and pull to the same "tightness"
I rode my bike to the dyno, approx 25/30 miles............I just rode easy and didn't hammer it.
No problems
