Default Apes in the Twisties

No, that's not the title to the new "King Kong" sequel.

I was wondering what people with Ape Hanger bars had say about their bike's handling in the twisties. I'm sure these types of bars are great on the freeway, but do they handle well in the curves?

I'm thinking about putting 14" apes on my 2010 RK.

Thanks,

Alex

Personally I feel more control with apes then before I had them. Once I got use to them anyway

Cool. What size bars are those on your bike?

Having had several heights of apes (10", 12.5", 16"), I wouldn't be as concern with the height as the width of the bars. I found it more deficult to manuver twisties with narrow bars (tip-to-tip width), especially with a passenger on board. My next set of apes will be 14-16" with approx. 40" width.

I have 13" on mine and love them, lock to lock turns take a bit to get use to but after 20 min you'll love them

Had cylesmith 13" on my old SG. Not a problem in the curves and I ride pretty hard. Almost like have power steering with the extra leverage that the bars give you. It is a work out throwing the bike left and right in the twisties but the bars to not get in the way at all.

Love my apes in the twists. Like another poster said, feels like I have more control than I did with the stock bars. Mine are 16" with 32" width. Took me about 10 mins. to get used to em and have loved em since.

You may find that they require a little more effort for quick counter steering. But once you get use to it...you"ll be happy..plus they look awesome

I've just put my first ape. a little bit surprised at the beginning but after few miles, wow! I now prefer this bar (even if it's only a 10") for riding.
go for it, you won't regret it!!
