Check the starter bolts for proper torque. Not sure what the torque is supposed to be but I think they came out with a new torque spec. If you do it by hand, you may find that the bolts are loose & that you can turn them with very little resistance.
I have read on this forum about hd having problems with the compensator sprocket. They won't cover under warranty unless something is wrong. May be covered! Maybe one one the pros can jump in if this will help.
Thanks for the input.. They should just install these as standard Equip. I know the SE clutch did wonders....
Screamin' EagleŽ Big Twin Compensator
This premium compensator has been engineered with heavier springs and increased travel to support the high-torque output associated with high compression race and large displacement engines. Designed to support up to 7 times the energy absorption capacity of the Original Equipment compensator, this unit helps protect the engine and driveline components during harsh drag race launches. The perfect addition to a complete performance upgrade, and complements the installation of the Screamin' EagleŽ Performance Clutch Hub P/N 37976-08. (Available September 2008)
If they will do the starter under warranty , ask them if they could swing you a deal on the SE comp.
If the comp "only" eliminated the starter bang , it would be worth it.
I did mine myself and was pleasantly surprised with the change in primary sounds and smoothness of the bike overall.
What really got me is when my wife is with me , the bike is really smoother than it ever was stock.
Seems like the more weight and resistance I provide , the smoother it gets.
The starter "bang" has been totally eliminated for me , which has to be easier on the starter , and the upgrade was worth the price.
Very satisfied with the SE comp.
