Montube Cartridge
#12
Completed the montube and 940 install, not nuff miles to give a real ride report. First thoughts, decreased front end dive while braking, firmer more sport like ride. Rear 940s must be setup with sag correctly and then its personal preference. They are a bit stiff so myself @ 200lbs I am trying the softest setting + 1/4 turn to start with. I was going to change fork oil so called the dealer, they wanted $275 plus parts. Hell for $265 and I do the labor, I got the monotube setup, no oil to change in the future. Self install takes some patience, a shop manual, common sense, and at least 2 special tools. One is an ignition alignment tool or a homemade one, (good video posted on formums) shows hoome made tool. https://www.hdforums.com/forum/touri...h-removal.html
Second in my case of an 09 was a 35mm wrench for for caps, (under fairing a bit. Other than time and common sense, not bad at all. OK good luck. Will report back on ride after 500 miles or so.
Also note, for the c clip/spacers, I have a 21 front so I opted to leave the spacers out. It dropped my front end by about 3/4" from stock. Like I posted earlier, and from progressive, every bike is different! That little bit of drop helped the handle of the bike since adding the 21. ENJOY! RIDE SAFE!

103Eagle you did the standard Monotube kit not the lowered kit correct?
I have an 09' SG and ordered the lowered monotube kit from Dr. V Twin a few days ago. I also have a 21' front tire. I talked in dept to a Progressive tech. and for my height and what I was wanting to accomplish he recommended the lowered kit. I have just replaced the rear shocks with a set of heavy duty 440s.

Yep, did the standard and did not add the c clips or spacers. I have a 21 and it raised the front end about 1.25". I measured from the top of the axle cover to the bottom of the cowbells (chrome covers just below the bottom triple tree cover, with no rider on the bike, just static sag. I measured 12 3/8". Installed the standard mono kit with no spacers and same measurement is now 11 3/4". So it dropped me about 5/8", I instantly noticed the difference when I rode it. Took away some of that too high in front feeling. Feels much better, looks good too, before it looked too high in front, now more level. A little bit helped quite a bit. I would reserve lowering with the 1 or 2" mono drop kits due to reduced travel. Of course it depends on how ya ride and if its 2 up or not. taking a trip the next few days, we will see how she rides! Good Luck.

I did the 940 shocks and the 1" lower monotube fork cartridges, I love the 940 shocks, the forks work much better than stock and corner and handle excellent however on big bumps the rebound is hard, after 3 days and many miles it did get better and seems to be improving with break in, I will monitor it and may call Progressive to see if I can soften the rebound on big bumps
