OK, has ANYONE heard this info from a real Harley service tech re: will the EFI adjust if the mufflers only are replaced on a 07 dresser? (NOT from a friend of your uncles buddy who works next to the HD dealer)

The system on a 07 is different from previous years, due to the addition of the 02sensors the new system is a limited closed loop and will adjust for the change in mufflers as long as you dont go radical flow, like straght pipes or really free flowing ones, SEII's, vance and hines, and the like are said to work fine, if you do the free breathing air cleaner you will have to add a fuel management system.

The guy accross the street has a second cousin who shoots pool with the bike detailer/janitor at the local dealer. Apparently, if you replace the 02 sensors with SE Platinum spark plugs and put on a velocity stack, the performance increase is incredible, good mileage too! I guess he let this slip after a few brews.

ok here is what the DEALER SERVICE MANAGER told me...... that the o2 sensors will NOT compensate for changes. the bike cannot change beyond its programing..... and the bike will need a download air filter and pipes to configure the machine to flex beyond its design..... the o2 sensors are more for EPA than for us. they will however better manage the machine if you were to travel from the Rockies to Death Valley. but major changes such as pipes and air cleaner require fuel managment reworking of some kind

Finally something that makes sence about the 02 sensores and how they interact with the ECM on the new 07's.

truth is you can't expect a company who makes muti-millions on accessories to build a machine where plain ole joe can just drill holes in his AC saw the ends off his pipes and the bike magically know "hey i need more fuel!!! and who needs back pressure just advance the time alittle" its all about a dollar and who can play the "LETS GO BROKE ON A BIKE GAME" new twist on an old favorite from Harley davidson brothers

Well this may be true on the 06, but the ECM on the 07 is not the same it is now a limited closed loop system and it will compensate for exhaust, now thats what my dealer/manager told me, so I guess we dont know any more now than we did, except I believe my guy, and know a closed loop system can self adjust somewhat to changes, notice the other stated air cleaner too, but the original question was mufflers only. Add a SE air cleaner and yes you will have to go beyond the stock ecm.
