You mean to tell me there is a problem with the compensators on the 2010s? That is just wrong.

You have a lot invested. I would sure change it out. I agree that it is wrong. I guess I wondering if the automatic chain tensioners are "hiding" the problem. But I have no idea.

I just encourage all to change it out for the Screamin' Eagle version. I suspect there will be a recall, but one never knows...my fear was the tranny locking up...I'm thinking now that I was lucky.

I have 4,000 miles on my 2010 Ultra, with NO transmission problems what so ever. I did however, put in Red Line Shock Proof heavy during my 1000 mile service, like I do with everyone's bike that I do a service on. Harley's synthetic is just too thin for me. The S.E. compensator is next on the list. I wish an area dealer would replace the stock one, under warranty, but that is doubtfull. Even if I had a bad stock one, my local dealer will NOT upgrade parts and have the customer pay the difference.

I agree about using good oil. Now I'm wondering if the problem was masked because of the Amsiol I had in it and when the dealer put the Harley Synthetic in...that showed up the bearing howl because their oil is so "thin." I didn't notice the problem until I had ridden some miles after the service. I bought this bike in February. We now have 12,000 miles on her.

I just don't know.

That was in Florida by the way! You guys know how to warm things up there! Sheese, thought I was the main course at a BBQ.. We rode there from Washington State in June. Had a great time! But, man it was hot for us old farm kids.

Hopefully bearing whine doesn't sound like a turbine winding down. Mine sounds like that when I'm coasting to a stop.

I'm getting quite a bit of transmission noise, especially in 1st. I've also got very inconsistent clutch engagement. I'll be at 25k by the time fall rolls around, and was planning on taking it in for the steering head bearing at that point anyway.

Hopefully nothing grenades before that.

Well, that would be a good description of what I heard...

But who knows, maybe just a noise your bike makes.

I actually even thought that since I have quiet mufflers that I was hearing things that I haven't before....

I was wrong..

Mine was in every gear, any condition of pulling or coasting, loudest at about 2800 rpm's.

I simply hope that my experience will help others avoid "issues!"

How long does it take to replace the compensator with a SE compensator?
