BTW, I bought a used seat from eBay that had a rip in the cover, got it very cheap and that way I wasn't without a seat during peak riding season.

The problem with redoing a HD seat, they can only do so much with the seat pan. I sent my seat off my 08 UC to MCC. When I got it back, it was like sitting on the frame. I rode it a couple hundred miles before getting rid of everything and getting a 2010 RK. The stock seat on the RK is not the best, but I can live with it. The best seat I've sit on lately is the stock seat I took off my wifes 2010 SG Trike. It fit's and feels great. It looks like the same seat that's on the RG's. I'm not a big man though, 6 Ft 205 lbs 36 waist and 32 Inseam. I know MCC has helped a lot of people, just didn't work for me. If I were to buy a new seat today, I would get the Mustang Super Touring w/rider backrest # 79556 JMO

Ultimate Seat
Steve: Two years ago I bought my first bike in over 25 years. It was a Honda VTX 1300. Worst factory seat you can imagine. Went on a 200 mile ride and everything was numb below the waist for a day. I tried a Mustang seat at the Honda Stealer and didn't think much of it. I bought an Ultimate Big Boy with rider backrest and loved it. Only rode the bike for a year (it was my training wheels bike until I got my expertise back up before buying a Harley). Sold the VTX last year and bought a 2009 Road Glide.
Road Glide seat wasn't too bad for a factory seat IMHO. But rode from Virginia Beach to Sarasota FL via Daytona this April. After 700 miles (Daytona), I was getting a bit sore. Saw that Ultimate has a store at Destination Daytona and stopped in. They had an Electra Glide in their showroom which uses the same seat as the Road Glide and tried it out. The seat felt better and more supportive where it counted.
They had me pull my bike around the back and they put the ultimate on the bike, let me take it for a spin and I bought it. The passenger seat is wider than the stock one piece seat and the rider seat felt about 1.5" wider also. I got the backrest which is a must for me. I won't say that any bike seat feels like my lazy boy recliner but I like the ultimate. So... I've bought two seats from them in 2 years and have been happy with both. I think I paid something like $780 for the drivers seat, passengers seat and backrest. Yeah, probably a bit more than some other companies, but comfort is important to me. BTW.... I'm 6'2" and 290 so yeah, things are different than 25 years and 100 pounds ago.
Last... since I was on the road 700 miles from home and still had about 1500 miles of riding to do, he gave me a rain cover for the rider seat (not a big deal, but nice touch if it rains without the bike covered). They also shipped my factory seat back home by UPS no charge.
Not one of the biggest seat companies out there or as well known as the others, but I'm happy with them. They stock about everything at the Destination Daytona store. I believe the company and their manufacturing is out of Toronto Ontario someplace. When I ordered for the Honda, I think I got the seat in about 8 days.
Oh yeah... one last thing works well for me (and a plug for a company I liked). Two years ago I got a black lamb wool seat cover and seatback cover from Alaska Leather. A little extra padding is always nice. Under $100 for those two years ago and got them by priority mail in about 2 or 3 days.

I've had them all: stock seat, Tallboy seat with gel and foam mods, Mustang (previous bike), Corbin and Russell Day Long.
The Corbin was good, but my wife didn't like it, and I still got butt burn after 400 miles.
I got my Russell Day Long about six weeks ago, and if you're looking for long distance comfort, this is the best seat I've ever had. They custom make it for you (you send in pics of you sitting on the bike), and it fit perfectly.
If you're looking for a sleek, low profile seat, this ain't it. But if comfort is your priority, give it a try.
The downside is that you have to send in your old seat, and they build it from the pan up. So you're without a seat for a while even though you don't send it in until the production date. They aren't cheap either, but the best usually isn't.
