My HD dealer can't find the problem. I'm stuck and need help. It's an '07 Road King Classic with a stock engine except for Rush pipes installed and dyno'ed by the dealer three years ago. Here's the problem in detail which started to happen about 18 month ago:
This happens only occasionally, once or twice a month and only on a hot day on a long ride after riding for more than an hour. No problem at cruising speed but when slowing down the engine suddenly sputters, backfires and races at about 2500 RPM with throttle at minimum. Throttle action does not kick it down to normal idle. Every time this happens I know that within 30 minutes a stop will result in the engine dying. Turn off the key, restart and the problem goes away. This has never happened more than once in a single day. Dash reports no problems or diagnostic codes. Dealer could not reproduce the problem as it happens so seldom. Dealer says there are no problem codes recorded in the computer.
PLEASE help. Any suggestions are sincerely appreciated.

do a search on 07 idle problems. There's a lot of info on reflashing the ECM to help with idle problems on this year. I had mine reflashed and the problems for me are gone.
I suspect it may have something to do with a completely stock engine with a set of Rush mufflers. Or at least having some affect because of it.
I mounted a set of Rinehart's on my stock '07 RKC and it ran somewhat differently than before. The idle seemed to vary a little at times. After having a Stage 1 and download, the issue seemed to have gone away.
I'm surprised the service department wasn't able to reproduce the concern you have. Try taking it to another dealer.
