2010 S/G No Load Engine Ping
My 2010 S/G has 700 miles on it and has developed an engine ping. I only burn Chevron premium gas from different stations. The engine only pings when down shifting on freeway offramp or while sitting at a stop with a hot engine and I burp the throttle. Of course it doesn't ping with every throttle bump but enough to get my attention. Never pings under load. My dealer told me that H-D has them so leaned out that this is normal. Thats funny. None of the other 2010 bikes I ride with ping. The dealer checked the ECU for codes and told me that everything is normal. A week later they put it on their dyno and again said normal. They told me that I needed to do exhaust, breather and ECU upgrade to cure problem. What. I need to spend money to make my bike run right? I called H-D factory and they told me to get second opinion from another dealer. I did. Wow, what a surprise, normal. Anyone else have this issue. Any ideas. Is it normal? Is the ping doing engine harm? Is there a way to insist that H-D fix this problem. I've been told everything from bad gas, faulty injector, hot spot in the cylinder head to just my imagination. Huh! This is the 4th new Harley for me since 1979 I know what I'm hearing.
