Depending how much distance riding you've done. This time of year in the the hot weather we've been having make it a bit rough on riders that haven't logged a lot of miles. Depending on how far and what your destination is. How far you can ride in one day would count on how many stops you make.

[quote]If you are doing lots of sight seeing I would stay under 300 miles per day. The group I ride with all of the women start complaining over that. They would prefer to keep it to 250 but that never works out.[quote]
I agree. If you really want to enjoy the day and stop for lunch, coffee, pictures, etc. start out with 200-300 miles and adjust from there.

250 miles for me. I take the remote roads and stop at anything interesting. Take lots of pictures. Never pass an old train station. Walk around old towns. If its new to me and unusual, I want to stop and see it. If I get to my destination early, I keep riding locally til I'm ready to stop. Always want to be eager to ride next day instead of dreading another long day. The further I have to travel, the less I'm inclinded to make any stops, then I get home and wonder what I missed by not making the stop. Plus, 250 miles is a rough plan. If I see an interesting detour off the planned route, I'll take it. Sometimes exceed 300 miles, come in late, low on fuel, hungry, but having fun.

I average 500/day. If I go under I up the next day. I have done several at 860 miles without trouble when they were Interstate miles with 75 mph speed limits. Running 75 to 80 starts to eat up the miles.

A good easy day is 350 miles. I have pushed it all the way to 750 but doing that for more then one day takes a toll on you. I would say 400 -450 Is about right if you are having to look for a room every night.

i now live 700 miles from pueblo colorado where i grew up. it takes me about 12 hours to make that trip when i take a mini vacation for a few days. by the time i get there, i'm exhausted and ready to shut down. for me, 700 is about the comfort limit.

I usually do about 350 a day, that is on WAY side roads of Europe that tend to be barely 2 cars wide. I stop for coffee and gas when appropriate and also for pictures when just bored or when the sites needed to be recorded. I can take about 10 hours a day on the bike for that though. I am still good for a few beers and dinner and another day of that. Got a 10 country, 5 of then in the Alps, run coming up hopefully if I can ever get back to Europe this year, and planning on that taking about 10 days with stay overs in Amsterdam, and Germany, and Pisa Italy.

I plan on 350 - 450 per days as a norm. However I'm sure she will tell you what your norm will become. Ride and have fun ... The miles will come all by themself.

We try to avoid the interstates as much as possible when we're touring. If we are just puttin' along and not rubber-necking, we do three tanks a day. I take about three gallons after 120 to 130 miles (lo fuel light comes on early and I just can't ignore it). I stop after an hour or so for a stretch, figure it's about the half way point to gas, and then make a longer pit stop for gas. It's a candy-butt pace but it keeps her happy. We do good until we're almost home and then it seems like she's willing to do a 600 mile day to get back.

When you get into the hills, you'll be surprised by the lack of crowflight miles you'll go doing back roads as compared to bee-lining down the interstate.
