Default Tuner northern NYC suburbs?

Anyone have any opinions about a tuner in the northern burbs of New York City? There is a shop called Westchester Powersports closest to me - they are a Dynojet approved seller/tuner. I've got a Power Commander V so would make sense to potentially go there. However, I have no clue on the type of work/experience level the shop has other than what they have told me.

Any local input from the forum here?

There's a guy in Rockland named Ivan at Rockland Motorcycle Ivan's Performance Products. He appears regurlarly in national mc publications for his ability to supertune bikes where no one else can. Mostly works on imports but tunes and dynos Harleys as well as anyone I've ever seen. Not always the friendliest guy in the world but worth every effort to see him.

Try Conan's in Elmsford right off R. 9. This guy worked for Prestige and Reggie Pinks HD before he open his own shop. When I rode with White Plains Hogs a lot of the members spoke very highly of his skills. I spoke with him once about the cam chain adjusters and he was very knowledgeable.

I know Fred - but didn't think he had a Dyno! I'll check with him. I too have used him in the past and think he is very good - as a wrench and a businessman. Thanks!

FYI - Conan's website simply says "Gone Biking" now and the phone number doesn't work. Too bad - looks like another good indy wrench has folded up tent...

If they are an approved tuning center then they should be using "tuning link" with a newer 250i dyno. They should be capable of doing the tune as tuning link does the work. Just my opinion but sometimes it can be setup to tune richer than it needs to be.

Thanks for the info, Lonewolf... I got a reply from one guy who does all kinds of bikes, ATV's, etc.. lines up with what you state as required..

"I use a Dynojet model 250ix dyno with load control, and Mark IV exhaust gas analyzer. Running Tuning Link 5 mapping software and Winpep 7"

I just wish someone would recommend him - he's an unknown to me. However, I would be willing to give him a shot if no other alternatives surface.

FWIw, i live in middletown, work in rockland and i travel to Dave at www.jdscycleworks.com for a tune.

Does Ivan tune all throttle positions?

What shop has a 250ix?

I have to agree with Dan about Dave being one of the premier tuners and I believe he also uses the PC. One of the limitations of the tuning link is you only get to pick three afr ratios for your afr table, but it does make it easy to tune as it links Winpep (dyno), the PC and does the math. Using the PC and Winpep only will allow for a greater selection of afr's. A big part of the equation is to know what your bike wants. That is where Dave shines.

The shop with the 250ix is Westchester Powersports. The owner replied to my email inquiry promptly and seemed interested in my business. But, as you guys know - reputation is everything - and if I had a line on satisfied customers on previous tunes,I wouldn't hesitate to give him a try. I just don't have a point of reference either way.

Thanks for the tip on JDS... Bethlehem is about a two hour ride for me so thats totally doable. addign his name to the list of contenders...
