Default 1968 Electa-Glide Feeler Thread

I am really having a hard time posting this. A good friend of mine has fallen on hard financial times and is thinking of letting go of his '68 Electra-Glide. His grandfather bought the bike brand new in Denver and had it until he passed away 2 years ago. It was then handed down to my friend whom had great hopes of restoring it and riding it. My friend basically grew up around the bike and going on sunday rides with his grandfather for most of his childhood. He went and picked up the bike and it has been in his garage here in So. Cal. ever since. It hasn't been started since 1984 and has 26k original miles on it. It has always been garaged and covered.

We had great dreams of rebuilding this bike and riding together and it truly saddens me that he is considering letting this bike leave his family. If I had the money, I would buy it and just sit on it until he could buy it back and build it in tribute to his grandfather.

Here's a pic of his grandfather on it in 1969. What do you think its worth?? He will get me more detailed pics this weekend as it sits in his garage.

There isn't much different, other than its older and dusty.

Man, I really love these old FLs. If I could afford it I'd have one from every year they were ever produced! I want a '65 (first electric start, last panhead), and a birthday bike ('67).

Sad situation...I hope he finds a way to keep it and perhaps one day get it back on the road again.

Bad financial times usually pass without being all that bad. Selling things during these times are usually deeply regretted. I would do everything in my power to keep that bike as it's a family heirloom (he grew up with the bike). If he's a good friend and you can afford to be the pawn for him that would be the best situation. I hope your friend finds a way to keep the bike and lands on his feet.

I too would love to have one of those old bikes I see 1 from time to time and they sure get the attention. Let us know what is going on with it?

It's probably not worth anywhere close to what he thinks. Would be way better off keeping the bike if he thinks he might ride it some day.

Here is a running rebuilt '68 that just sold on eBay for $7300 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1968-...US_motorcycles

Long as numbers match up, should be worth around $15-20K.

Trust me, I'm in total agreement with you and have been talking to him regarding keeping it. We have determined that it would be worth much more with it running, so he's still up in the air.
