I just did the 5K service on the Road King. I decided to go with the Red Line Shock Proof Heavy in the Transmission. I had a heck of a time getting the jam nut loose under the derby cover. I had a nut welded on a socket so that I could use a box end wrench and an allen. I thought I had it all worked out. Followed the instructions and seemed to get it.
I rode to work and home, fine. I decided to take the kid for a ride, the clutch cable goes limp and very little and then no clutch. It was a biatch getting home, but I did it. I took the derby cover back off to see if the jam nut came loose, no it didn't. I adjusted the clutch with the clutch adjuster and call my favorite dealer. They got me in at 5 PM on a Friday! I rode the bike there (45 min) no problems. I have them look at what I might have done. The mechanic adjusts it and it goes out of adjustment on him. He finds that the cable is split!!! I have 5100 miles on it!!! (HD Diamondback Clutch Cable, 38921-09)
Well 2 1/2 hours later the dealership warranties the cable (I bought it last winter and installed it myself) and only charges me for 1 hour labor. I am not running the Red Line anymore because they dumped it before they asked. So I was able to ride this weekend, but I am not happy that the cable broke. The dealer did the right things and I am happy with them.
I am glad I didn't take my trip without having them take a second look. Who knows where we would be on our 550 mile trip.
Has anyone else had problems with the Diamondback cables on the > 96 inch motors?
I'm missing something here. What does having Redline Shockproof Hvy in the tranny have to do with the cable adjustment going wrong and cable splitting?

Probably just coincidental but don't know why he threw that in about the trans fluid in the middle of a clutch tale. I'd like to know how a clutch cable splits.
I'm running the diamondback cables with no problems.
Sounds like he was leading up to the fact that he just put the Redline in the tranny and the dealer dumped it to replace the clutch cable-before he could see if he liked the Redline or not. JMHO
My diamond back cable is working fine for about 15000 miles now.
Are these cables supposed to be lubed?

If your dealer did you right, and considering you installed the cable sounds like they did. Give the name and location the dealers get a lot of crap written nice to give them kudos when they earned it. Just my $.02. Glad you weren't stranded ride safe.
Oh and don't you love taking the kids, I put my daughter on when she was 5 around the block. Now she is 24 and loves to ride with the old man.
