Default Road Glide, inner/outer fairing strip problem

Between the inner fairing and outer fairing on my '06 RG is a strip of rubber or plastic with some adhesive. The purpose is to protect the rubbing of the inner/outer fairing (my guess). After a short amount of riding this trim works its way out of where it should be and makes the bike look like crap. It's on both sides of the fairing just above the speakers where the stripping ends. I tried to put it back in place but I can't work with it very well.

I took the outer fairing off once to put in some hogtunes speakers and fixed the stripping then. Took a road trip and it came out again. Just took it in for my second service and told them about it and they said that it's not right and will look into fixing it. Picked my bike up today and looked at it and can see that all they did was put it back into place so I said I'd be back if it came up again because this to me is a warranty issue (spend $26k CDN on a brand new bike and you would think that this shouldn't happen).

Anybody have this problem and if so how did you fix it?

I want to add that I absolutely love this bike and wouldn't trade it for anything. I just got back from a nice 3500km road trip and couldn't be happier. However, the stripping between the fairing and the rubber that sits at the bottom of the windshield have been two very sore spots for me with this bike. I believe if you spend big bucks on something like a brand new bike you shouldn't expect this to happen. Do you think this is a warranty issue or am I making a big deal out of something minor?

Your not making a big deal out of nothing, my 06 and I'm sure everyone else's does the same thing. Let me know the fix.

My 05 was doing the same thing in the same place. I pulled off the outer fairing and pulled the rubber strip out a little and cleaned the silicone off and then put a small dab of Krazy Glue on it and pushed it into place and held it there until the it set up and it hasn't worked loose again all summer. So I think I got it fixed for good now.

You might give it a shot, just make sure you use just a little and let it completely dry before you reinstall your outer fairing.

this is a source of contention with many people on this bike. i tucked mine in three seperate times today alone. it's really not so much a warranty issue though. all their gonna do is tuck it back in and/or put a dab of glue on it at the top where it pops out. they're not gonna take the time to re-engineer it. i dabbed some glue on mine once before, and it held for awhile, but this area obviously has a lot of rubbing and vibration going on. it is aggravating, but don't let it turn you off of h-d. and remember, it is an h-d, they're not perfect. the next time i pull my outer fairing off to install new handlebars i'm going to look at what i can do about this issue. perhaps some different trim. so short term, i really don't have any recommendations for you. just know that they all do it.

as far as the windshield rubber strip goes, that should NOT be popping out. if it is, it is not installed properly. take it apart and have a good look at it. the trim must be properly pinched between windshield and outer fairing. it's actually a good setup, imo. i change windshields out on a reguler basis and have no problems.

Good to know I'm not the only one. Thanks for the tips. I'll throw a little grief to the dealer next time I'm there. Probably won't get me anywhere but it may get me the number for a regional rep or something (which will probably also get me nowhere). While I agree they're not perfect, this is something that could be adressed for minimal cost I'm sure. It's not like this is the first year the Road Glide has been out. It's just a shame that such a beautiful piece of machinery doesn't deserve a little more attention to a few of the smaller details.

Thanks for the tip on the windshield rubber jfanton. I'll be looking at that right away.

The molding on mine has popped out several times. The first time the dealer repaired it and then the second time I repaired it.
Maybe I'll get new strips and a better adhesive.I think the channel on the molding is not deep enough.
As far as the windsheild molding,I glued that on.

Any tips for taking off the windshield? It's raining here and I thought it might be a good chance to tuck my rubber strip back into place. Is the windshield molded or is it flat? Think if I'm not too adept at this type of thing that I'd need two people?

Most times its just a prep problem, same on classics, you cant just reinstall after you pull it loose but if you wipe area with acohol and put a dab of silicon glue it will stay on fine.
