I understand you frustrations.....but your mistake was leading and letting him follow. Let him lead and then he is always in your sight!! Or just ride lone wolf!!!
+1 that is why I like to ride at the very back of the group whenever possible
I'm sure you all have that guy in your group that makes you more nervous when he rides with your group.
Nope, but it is a small group. (or maybe I am that guy).

I fail to see your logic
They always make me lead.

I could have killed him. I had to share that with you guys cuz it was driving me crazy and i know you guys know exactly what i'm talking about.
We don't have lane splitting here and I rarely ride in heavy traffic so I have to ask. If this guy was just another motorcycle on the road and not part of your group would that have been different? Seems like there would be more space between the lane and barrier than between lanes (where you were at).
Is one preferred over the other and are both legal?
Sounds to me like the guy driving the car was at fault, if he hadn't moved over you both would have been fine.
Good to hear you and your wife (and ********) made it out with no problems.
Your story reinforces why I ride alone (with wife on board), or with my close riding buds who have 30 years experience. There is one newby, but he is respectful, conscientious, and learning!
I also wont blind ride with a stranger on the road making room for me. Some might think I'm a D***, but it's my life....
Some of the azzhats I see at any biker get together, leave me shaking my head, thinking - another statistic in the making!

I guess it would make sense to let him lead, but in the past he has failed in the lead position too. guess i'm screwed either way with this guy. I think you guys are right. I should not ride with him any more.
Any other rider would have taken their place in the back of the line. No one ever rides on the outside of the carpool lane, especially if there are bikes splitting on the other side.
The safest place to slpit is between the car pool lane and fast lane. there are 2 double yellow lines about a foot apart and this creates the most space, about 5 feet at times between cars. Most people split there and never on the outside of the carpool lane. That is where the most debris is found, and there is often a concrete barrier and only 2-3ft of space.
The guy in the car was doing what most cars here do in heavy traffic when bikes are splitting, give some extra room to the bike. He just didn't hear me cuz i don't have a radio.

I guess I might give him the benefit of the doubt since he didn't know the car was going to cut you off. I've had friends do it, pass on outside lane vs. the passing lane where I am on 3 lane interstate. Annoying since I have to look all over for them because their not where they are suppose to be. Also let him know the rules of the road and how you like to ride and if either doesn't agree don't ride w him anymore, so be it. He probable doesn't realize what he was doing wrong and what almost happened. I'm the worst in communicating diplomatic or at all so I shouldn't be commenting. My other pet peve is when I pass and they follow but don't follow back in the driving lane, what's up w that. I usually ride alone but do like to ride w a couple friends occassionaly.
yikes, i'd tell the freak to to watch what the hell he's doing! if he wants to kill himself thats dandy but he need's to realize he's not the only guy on the road. a inconsiderate motorcycle rider (over agressive )is just as bad as a person i a car with thier head up their ***! just my ..02 glad nothing bad happened to you..
There is an even distribution of "A" Holes in this world across all walks of life...that include people riding motocycles. Just returned from a road trip and while going down the interstate in the middle of SD I see 3 bikes pulling a U turn from the other side of the interstate in front of me. The first 2 made the turn far enough in front of me, then the 3rd one tries to hurry up to keep up with is buddies and almost went down makeing the turn right infront of me. I had to hit the brakes and swerve to the next lane to avoid rear ending him.
