Anyone know why the new seat doesn't have the SG stiching?
I believe in the name of cost reduction. The new seats do have a lower profile with more back support, so that's kinda cool. Going along with the cost reduction thing, look at the new floor boards. Now they're a two-piece design instead of a three-piece.
On the older ones the black rubber mounted to a chrome plate, and that assembly was mounted on the bottom chrome plate. Now it's just an upper rubber plate that pops on to the lower chrome plate. Kind of nice that it's bigger though...

Not saying anything good or bad, just wondering.
I did too. WOT to about 4000-4500 a bunch of times in the first 20-30 miles (time it took to get from SJ HD to Redwood City).
I'm a big believer in the Mototune break-in method.
I just recently bought the new 103 glide . I was more interested in a bigger motor just for the fact that me and my wife aren't little spring chickens anymore. I'm still waiting for my backrest and hers with 4 point docking, which is going to happen monday just 2 weeks after I bought it. There was only 2 2011 glides on the floor when I bought mine a cvo and the 103. Those two went the same day. A guy came in on the way to Sturgis and bought the cvo and I bought the 103 in the same day. The 103 has great power for me anyway
it has 290 miles on it now and the ride seems comfortable. I'm getting ready to head up to minnesota from St Louis in a couple weeks or so. I'm stoked. This has been a long time coming. Sorry for the rambling guess I'm in a good mood
How much did the power pak cost you? I am looking at a 2010 Street Glide that the dealer has for sale that the 1st owner sold back to the dealer with only 1200 miles on it and lots of upgrades already including a oil cooler. I am trying to decide if I should do that, or buy a 2011 with the power pak. Is it that much different in power to make it worth the extra money I would be spending. That is really the only reason I would buy the 2011, well, beside the new cinnamon color that I think looks really nice.
Does anybody know if HD used the SE-255's cams w/ power pack or is it different cams?
>>I decide to go by the dealer today and ask some questions about the power pack...i.e. how much boost on the torque and whether the cam was upgraded from the stock 96. Got my answers...claimed 10+ percent increase in torque and no change in the cam.<<
Again, copied from the original post....You guys are killin' me!!
Security system and anti-lock brakes. I'm eyeballing the Road Glide and Electra Glide Ultra myself. One of my magazines says they're also coming out with a CVO Road King so I may wait to see what that looks like.
Hey, barjbar! Which mag had the CVO RK rumor? Did they think it'd come out mid year? Thanks!
Jerry
Thank you to the fella that named the break in method...mototune. Here is the theory and proven far as I am concerned. Those of you that are mechanics will probably see the truth. But, here goes.
The spring tension of the compression ring against the cylinder wall in of itself is insufficient to provide a seal against the pressures during combustion. Those same pressures get into the ring groove and put infinitely more pressure between the ring and the cylinder wall while running and this action is what in fact make the compression ring do its job of keeping most of the pressure on the combustion side vs bleeding off into the crankcase. This racer/mechanic believed that the quality of your ring seal happens within the first 20 miles of running. He believed that WOT provides more pressure to the ring and making a better seal during the critical first 20 miles....supposedly 80% of your ring seal happens during that time.
So, to prove his theory, he broke in an engine by the method the manufacturers tell you and ran the engine for 1000 miles and tore it down....what did he find....cross hatching still present on the cylinder walls and burnt oil on the piston skirts.
Rebuild the engine...broke it in like I did and the cylinder walls were smooth and no burnt oil on the piston skirts.
I love my '11, FLHX w/power pak. The only complaint would be the rear shock. No matter how I set it, it seems stiff...maybe it will break in over time.
The new seat is real nice. Unfortunately, I had to get the tallboy to accommodate my legs, but if you are interested in it, PM me.
