On page 451 of the latest Harley parts catalog there is part #75265-04a it states that it is Not compatible with Chrome insterment gauge bezel #74550-92T or Chrome inner fairing trim kit # 96396-09. I have both and can't see why if the new Gauge is made to look and fit like original equipment, then what is the difference?
I have run across a few items over the years that HD claims will not fit certain models but they did. Not sure if that is the case here or why they say will not fit when they do.
I was talking to the parts guy at my local dealer about that exact gauge the other day. According to him it fits fine, you just cant install the Harley chrome trim kit on it.
Perhaps it's a match with what you have. I had the silver gauges installed in my '03 FLHTI before taking delivery. Don't know what the original bezel on the black gauges looked like. The silver gauges appear to have chrome bezels. The silver oil temp gauge matches my silver gauges perfectly.

I know that that's what the parts book said I want to know why if its the same gauge as the original.

I have both the 75265-04a oil temp gauge and the trim 96396-09 on my Ultra, and they fit just fine. The oil temp gauge is just a hair smaller in circumference than the stock gauges, but the trim will stick to it. All of the chrome trim pieces attach with double sided tape that you have cut into small strips. Cheesy to say the least.

+1 on the trim fitting. I just put the gauge in last week and took the chrome trim off the air temp quage and it fit right on the oil temp quage with no problems.

This is good to know. I've had one on the shelf for a few weeks (waiting for the riding season to end) now. All of this talk about not being compatible with other gauges and trim rings had me worried.
