Thinking about switching out my bars on my 03 RKC. Is there a sponsor/vendor on the HDF or a website I might go to and see what's out there? There's probably a thread on here somewhere on this subject and maybe someone can steer me to it also. Mine are stock for that year and I would just like to have them a little higher but being new to the RK I have no idea where to start.
i've been looking for about 6 months for new bars on my 2000 RK,,, I sat on bikes with all kinds of bars and ended up ordering Road King High Bars from harley,, I also heard alot of good things about Heritage bars,, but i suggest you sit on a RK with the bars you want,,,sitting on any other bike may be deceiving,, You also have to be aware of the possibility u may need to change your lines,,,the RK high bars dont need longer cables,,,goodluck
A lot of people have found the Heritage bars a nice change from RK bars. P tried them and they were great. Better wrist angle than RK, more pullback and wider. There is also no cable changes needed. Had them on my 05 RKC
There was just something about the handlebars and seats in those model years that caused a lot of pain in people's backs and butts...and generally, most owners switched them out ASAP. HD Heritage bars are a relatively inexpensive swap that a lot of RK riders like on their bikes. Others (like me) swapped the stock with Wild 1's. That particular company has several different models, but the 518's seem to be preferred by those over 6' and the 508's are preferred by those under 6'. They have a great web site and their tech's are good people to talk with - give them a call.
Does your bike still have the stock seat? Based on just about what everyone else has discovered, you'll want to replace it at the same time. The HD Sundowner, Mustang and Corbin's are good choices...but I believe the HD is much less $$...but still a great seat.
Sounds like I need to study up on these. I do like the look of the small apes but I haven't sat on a bike with them as recommended. I need to keep my eyes open and see if I can find one.
Whiskers, the seat is probably the stock seat. It has the basket weave design and a HD medallion on the sides. The fellow that owned this bike since it was new passed away and I bought it from his wife who knows nothing about it. I did get a box of OME parts that he had left when he changed out some things but no seat. Lots of chrome though. I like it a lot. The black and silver takes some getting used to after having a wineberry GW for ever. Yeah, I'm a convert. Thanks for all the help and replies.
Guess I should have read your first post a bit more closely. You've got the stock RK Classic seat which should be fine. I was thinking about the two-piece seat that came on the RK Standard...those were terrible seats.
