Default TBW cable slack ??

Just picked up a "new to me" 09 RK. Noticed quite a bit of slack before the engine reacts. No problem, I think, I will just take the slack out of the cables when I get home.

Much to my surprise...............no cables...........so I go back to the dealer and was told to "get used to it". Went on a 3 day 1,300 mile trip............(lots of city traffic)..........and I haven't gotten use to it.

Dealer says there is NO physical or electronic adjustment.

Is that true??

No, it is not true. The throttle lag can be adjusted somehow via the ECM. My Dyno tech adjusted mine when he did the Dyno run and tune..

Like Vtwin said, there is no physical adjustment, just electronic, because the sensor has no moving cables going to a carburetor or throttle body. Its a simple rheostat, just like a dimmer switch for house lights. This is what it looks like inside of the handlebar:

Your handgrip has a gear that turns the white plastic gear in the sensor. Those are all the moving parts.

Regards,

Unless you have an aftermarket ECM...there is no adjustment available on the stock ECM that HD can perform. I already barked up that tree.
The differences between TBW and cables is a bit odd at first...but I've become accustomed to it. Give it some more miles...:-)

Hey........thanks for the input. I have no problem getting an ecm..........(which brings up which one?). Having poor throttle control while trying to turn around in a parking lot is not a good thing.

Thanks for the photo.........(they are worth a thousand words)

My TBW sensor failed right after I left the dealership one day and I had barely enough throttle to get back.

They replaced it under warranty and now I don't have the lag. Also, the throttle grip seems much firmer. With the old one, I couldn't keep the throttle steady on a bumpy road. Now, the road has to be a lot bumpier before I have problems keeping it steady.

Which ECM? Ok....this is a no-brainer. Power Commander V from Fuel Moto. I don't have one...yet...but every member on here will say the same thing...call Jaime at Fuel Moto and GET ONE!

The PCV is not an ECM..

There is no way to adjust throttle lag.

The SEPST has a function where you adjust throttle proportionality, which adjusts how far the plate moves when you move the throttle and certian revs. It has no effect on how fast the throttle moves, just how far it moves.

+1 on Jaime @ fuelmoto. Same thing on my 09, after installed pcv and jackpots no more hesitation at take off. Just talk to him and let him know your concerns, get u some jackpots while your at it, best sounding pipes for the money IMO
