that's exactly where i'm leaning with the newfound ticking. sounds like your timing needs to be ajusted back a few degrees. they'll know when it goes on the dyno. i had a pcv on my streetglide and the canned maps just weren't cutting it for me at all. after the motor build we dynoed it and the tech dialed it in, the cells of rpm's, timing, fuel, etc, and it runs like a pissed off gorilla after he did his magic. if you're getting that spark knock, also known as pre ignition, please don't try to push the motor hard, because that's really hard or damaging to a motor. take it easy on the throttle till it's dialed in properly, then you can go out and rip up the asphalt. the difference with how it runs now and how it will after it's dialed in correctly, will amaze you.
