Muffler fun
The stock muffs on my 2010 Ultra seemed a bit "subdued". There are so many aftermarket slip-ons out there, most of which I've owned over the years on different bikes, that I thought I'd mess around making adjustments for myself. I had some take-offs off a 2007 RK. In the front end there is what looks to me like a cat convertor material, about 5 inches deep. I took a 1 inch water pipe, sharpened the end, made a nice cradle for the pipe to stand in so it I wouldn't damage the back end, and took a sledge hammer and drove that pipe through the material. Not an easy drive through, but it made a nice 1 1/4 inch hole. I kept going and drove out the inner metal disc. Then at the back end, I drilled three 3/8 inch holes in the rear metal disc to make it more open, but still left material there so it would seem somewhat stock in looks if were to be stopped at a noise checkpoint. The results were, they sound sweet! It wasn't an easy hammer job, but it was more or less free and it sounds as good as many other pipes I've had.
