Default Skipping HK CD player

Just picked up my 06 SG last week. The stock Harman Kardon cd player skips and sometimes will just stop tracking for 10s or more at a time. Sometimes it will play several tracks with no problems before it does it again. The bike only has 2K miles on it, so the player hasn't seen a lot of use. I am going to try a laser lens cleaner to see if that helps. Has anyone else had this problem?

Are you playing CDs you recorded or new. The HK is pretty finicky.
06 was the first year for HK and loaded with problems. There are software updates that will fix some of the issues.

In addition to the "check for updates" suggested earlier, you might also consider running a CD cleaner through it. It cleans off the crud that can collect on the laser reader(s).

ditto on the fairing brackets. 06 and 07 brackets are notoriously bad...check for a broken one

Question Cd skipping

I just bought a 2010 FLHTCU and it's cd player skips right from the first day.

It will skip on mp3 recorded discs; the dealer said use only store bought mp3 discs! Of course they do not exist but I did try store bought cds and they skip as well.

I recorded a new disc at 8x thinking the slower burn would work and it was a little better seemed to skip less but did anyway.

It may be after an hour or just a few minutes. Lately it has been skipping and switching back to the cb or radio then back to the cd.

Dealer says to bring it back in and show that it does and they will order a replacement. Does not seem logical that in 2010 Harley still has problems with such simple technology...this does not seem to be a $909 unit!

Dealer advises use of an ipod and to avoid the HK radio!

Anyone have a fix?

If you're not already doing so record in data mode as well as the slowest speed.
