I recieved a call back from HD Corp this morning. I told him about the issues that I am experiencing with the 5th gear (still) even after the sythetic oil "fix". The guy(shall remain nameless to protect my source) said that .."...is definately on our radar. We havent found any signs of abnormal gear wear or that this is anything other than a loud gear noise." I then asked him why others that have the same tranny are not having the issue if it is "normal" and he said something about tolerances and other factors...I am going to push them to give me an extended warranty either at no cost or a very discounted cost.

Been there good luck.
i gotta say. I love harleys but this new tranny s------s. have almost 8000 mi on my 07 roadking and the noise is moving..6th is clsattering for sure as is 5th(from day one) and 4th is starting to chime in.
I wrote to moco, fioled papers with pa state attorney generals office, talked numerous times to dealer and last but not least have told the bank that if hd doesn't get on the ball with this they can come pick the bike up.
ridin in the hills really bites. you got a strong good engine,a comfortable ride but the tranny sings a tune i can't imagine anyone gettin use to.
If nothing else I'll get rid of it when the 08"s hit the street if they chang e the tranny and you can almost bet they will given all the slack they are taking for it. stinlin shame. bike really does haul ***. butnot a touring bike in my opinion.
My SG is three weeks old with 800 miles, and I've noticed the noises referred to on this thread. The first and fifth gear whine is not loud on this bike and not a problem. The rattles, however, are disconcerting. I called HD Tech Support and was told the noise originates in the compensator and is not an indication of abnormal wear or malfunction. The rattles are only evident when hot, in which case the oil is thinner, and I wonder if increasing primary oil viscosity might improve it. Since nobody seems to know what the viscosity is of Formula+, I have no reference to go by. I may try some Castrol GTX 20w50 and see what it does. Then, maybe ATF Type F.
I'm watching this thread closely. I think most people are happy with the 07's but I think ALL should be happy. I was thinking of ordering a bagger in a month or two. I might wait to see what's going on with some peoples bikes here.
I thought the issue was just a little more heat and whinning 5th gear but seems like more to it than that.
My 07 SG is now approching 4000 miles, I had the full synthetic oil at 1000, changed back to HD oil and HD formula Trans/Primary at 2500, The engine was noisy at with
the syn. oil , and the 5th gear whine was more noticeable at low speeds.
Since I have more miles on it, and have had the re-map done, it now sounds and runs like a HARLEY..
It now has a harley sound, not a SHADOW..
May the breakin just takes longer on the 96, I was jumping up and down untill i just started riding it... Now it's setteling down
And the re-map did help out a lot, Harley wants to call it a technology enhancement , they screwed up with the map.
or this was the way to get the 07's out the EPA door, then fix them later..
Maybe some are worse than others, but if you still have low milage on your 07, Try riding it and breaking it in..
Hope it get's resolved, I'd say the price it too high for the caliber of machinery, but like all Harley Owners say: It's a state of mind.
Resistance is futile, you will be asiminated.. (haha to dam funny)
Letting the bike go back to the bank would be the dumbest thing you could possibly do. What do they have to do with the tranny problem? You will wind up with a repossession, and more than likely a big deficiency balance after they sell the bike. Guess what? You will still have to pay the deficiency balance. Then you get an attorney, etc. I have had many Harleys and have had trouble with them all, however, the moco always comes through and does the right thing. Just be patient and don't do something stupid.
Jeff,
you are right and I am really just venting. I will however trade it in as soon as harley makes a change. Ashame cause i really like the way the bike performs stock since the d flash was installed. I pray that those of you who don't have thew noise don't get it cause to cruise at 45 to 60 in 5th in the hills really blows. Even with a full face helmet my OL says this bike has an issue. Not to mention that as miles go the issue migrates to 6th gear as well and is now starting to show itself in 4th.
I am intouch with HD and Baker.. been riding my sporty now because of how uncomfortable the
rk is with the noise.(no i don't wear a helmet).until real cold.
I do ride all winter. HD has always made good in the past that i am aware of. In this case i fear they are going to leave us sink.
Baker info is on website baker kit#f6f cost is roughly 800.00 with 8 to 9 hrs labor.
i actually think hd shoul;d fork out the cash
