Default Wonderful time in Maine

Just got back from a wonderful trip in Maine. We rode around Bar Harbor one day and then we did some interior riding. Roads were better then expected (better then in VT anyway). Only complaint would be you're not going to find many gas stations with 93 oct gas. 91 was the highest we found and I did notice a difference in performance and gas mileage...still it was a wonderful time. Highly recommend getting up there was the weather is still good.

Went there last July 2009 and had a great time. Might go back Mid-Sept, wondering how cold its there then and when does the snow start?

Great area around there. The mountain areas are also really nice especially in the fall with the colors changing.

Oh forgot to tell you...colors are starting to change already. I bet there will be an early change this year. Interior of state was wicked dry ..so that could bring an early change in colors.

Any issues with local PD? Word is they are cracking down on exhaust noise levels and really pushing it hard right now

Leaves are changing early due to the hot/dry summer we have had.
Interior roads are where the locals head, the coast is for the tourist. Head to the mountains for the best riding, and northern NH as well.

If you ask for trouble, the cops are going to give it to you. If you are riding respectfully, they are going to leave you alone.

Fall is the best time to ride around here, no snow until mid to late December if not later.

You don't need to worry about the local police as long as you are respectful. Maine is a great State to ride in and there are tons of nice rides and great people.

Premium gas can be hard to find once you are in the interior part of the State and I have had to fill up more than once with 87 octane. I usually keep my eyes open for premium gas with about 40 miles left in the tank.

First snowfall can come in October though it is not typically serious and the roads are warm enough to just get wet. With that said it is Maine and the weather can be unpredicatable and October will get cool, especially in the mornings. Heck, even in July we have been in Maine when temperatures drop to the high 40's overnight.

I spent the weekend in Maine as well. Riding in the day, intoxicated at Bentley's in the night!

Bentleys is dangerous territory for police road blocks. You know the ones that are just "safety checks".

Shhhhhhhhh......... don't tell everybody, the scenic backroads will become
over-run with rubbernecks and motorhomes.

I can still find a few 10 mile stretches of roads thru the hilly country-
side where you can ride 60 mph and not see a house or meet another
vehicle on the road.......
