Sometimes you may need heat, I've broke Snap-on torx bits more than once on rotor bolts.
You can heat a more precise area with a small torch, than you can with a heat gun. I use a micro-flame torch, then heat and try to remove, and repeat till they come out. I try to use no more heat than I have to to get them out.
I changed both front rotors on the Ultra last week. All 10 rotor bolts came out using a torx bit in a 3/8" ratchet. No heat, no breaker bar, no impact wrench... No problems.
An impact "driver" works just fine, & helps prevent striping the torx heads. I also replace those silly torx with socket head allen bolts, not button head. Button head bolts strip almost as bad as torx. JMO/YMMV......
I removed front rotor bolts without any heat, just a breaker bar. The rear rotor bolts snapped two bits before I broke out the torch to heat them up. After a small amount of heat bolts came right out.
I just change the rotors it was a piece of cake the bolts came of very easily I use a socket wrench with one hand. Does anybody know if you install new rotors do you have to use new brake pads? I would like to kept the original pads since they are still good.
On my 2000 RG the front rotors came off easy with a folding Torx set but the rear sacrificed 3 Torx bits to get all bolts out but 1 which I had to grind the head off of. To finally get the bolts off it took buying a Snap-On which still twisted but did'nt break. Good luck.
