That's the RPM range you start to get pinging, could it be that instead?

My 2011 flhtk 103 has noisey lifters. This is even after I had a whole new set installed after 6000k becuse they were soooo loud in the first 5 minutes of riding. Now I get a very loud tick tick at varing speeds. They are loudest at 2200 and 2800

I have finally given in and accepted that the HD V-Twin is simply an inferior beast and I shouldn't expect much from it other then torque. Noisey, not very easy on gas, finicky during hot restarts, etc. But passion for the old school V-Twin is what keeps it alive even though it seems it would be far past it's normal life expectancy otherwise.

I had very minor clicking and clacking, but after my cam swap I picked up my valve train clatter doubling it's volume, easily. After shimming the rockers, swapping out the lifters for Gatormans, trying 4 different pushrod adjustments and considering other tricks I give up. The inherent design of the beast possibly brings in rocker or mount deflection only detectable at certain engine speeds/harmonics.

Now it will run and click and clack as it sees fit, some day it may fail and i'll know where the trouble was. If it never does show up as a serious issue, then it wasn't.

If it becomes too much of a nuisance before it blows up, i'll trade it for a Honda or something for which I have less trouble and less passion.

Default I Learned To Live With It

I have a 2012 Street Glide with 10,000 miles on it. I thought the lifter noise was horrendous compared to my 2011 Super Glide Custom.

After bringing the bike to 3 different dealers, having the service managers of each ride the bike and tell me the noise was normal, and riding with two friends with 2011 and 2012 Street Glides which sound as bad, if not worse than mine, I have learned to live with the noise.

I personally think the "Motor Company" could learn how to make a quieter engine, but, other than the lifter noise, I love the bike. It is my 6th Harley. It handles like a dream, is very cool, and never fails to elicit comments at stop lights.

Oh well, it's a noisy beast.

Still Cool, though......

ya mine does it around 2600 and 2900 and the dealer just says there's nothing wrong with it so I guess I'll just live with it.

I have the valve train noise between 2300 to 2700 rpm.
Also notice quite a bit of valve train noise (ticking) at idle rpm.
Took my mechanics stethoscope to listen to each cylinder and they both sound about equal.
Should I be hearing the valve train noise at idle rpm?

I believe the bike must be under load in order to hear this annoying noise. Mine did not begin to become this noticeable until I hit 4k miles. Between 2,500-2,800 rpm I hear a distinctive metallic like grinding- almost like the sound of old crappy cassette tapes being rewound. It has been to the dealer twice and I am told it is normal. Taking it a 3rd time next week. I was told that they could open up the motor to see what is going on but if they find nothing wrong it will be on my dime. Nice!

Default Noisey 103

How did your noise turn out after the complete exhaust install. My 2012 SG was quiet as a mouse before I did a complete exhaust install . Now I hear all kinds of tapping and rattling and the dealer just tells me its normal. It is driving me nuts. Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks
