Default Fuel gauge

The low fuel light comes on around 125 miles. I have 70000 on the bike so i know the mileage is less than what it should be. When the lights just comes on I can only get around 2.5 gallons in the tank. I know its supposed to have a 5 gallon tank. The gauge reads just below full almost touching the line after the fill ups. Could the gauge be bad?

I`d put money on the sending unit being bad. Test the resistance of the old one verses a known good one if possible.

If you run a search on this forum on this subject you will find that many others have quirks with the fuel gauge. I and many other simply recommend using the trip gauge on the odometer to track your mileage between fill-ups.

Mine comes on at about 160, and I have about .6-.8 gallons left, so I think that is about perfect for me.

I rode about 200 miles today with a buddy of mine. he has an 08 deluxe 96 inch. filled up together to start and then filled up again before the end. I put a penny more gas in mine. I guess 200 and a fill up aint bad for my 70000+ evo
