First of all I am new to the forum and enjoy all the information, I am more of a reader than a poster,
Second, I have been riding for 45 years.
With that said, here is my question.
I have never been one to have the “fastest” of any car, or bike so I have never been in to all the speed mods....
I just traded my 2001 RK classic injected for a 2006 FLHXI, the RK only had Screaming Eagle Mufflers and for five years I was happy with the performance.
I just got back from a 6000 mile trip out west and I have to say I was disappointed with the performance of the SG, mostly the high end. It was embarassing not to be able to pass an 18 wheeler up hill.....
First advise from some, install a big bore kit, $2000.00 plus or minis.
OR
Second advise from some, install new filter system (K and N ??) and new slip on mufflers and have the bike re-flashed (what ever that is)
I bought the SG for the tunes and style, yes I am getting to be a “geezer”, I do not want to have loud pipes that drowned out the radio. I know I have a Harley and don’t care if others hear it or not.
I would like a straight answer if any one can help.
Stage one upgrade gains you a dramatic increase in performance over stock......air kit, exhaust & PCIII. With a big bore, mild to wild, all depends on your combo and budget. You seem like a stage one candidate, it'll get the job done!
I would say if you want to get your SG to move . I think you need to do everything you mention , A/C , Remap you injection system , and do the slip-on . Your bike is staved for air just like my 04 FLHT. Thats the way EPA like it ,slow and clean!
good advice..i'd throw in a cam like 26, 510's, or Kurakyn WT1 and use a PCIII with a good tune...that with a quiet pair of slip-ons and free flowin AC...you'll love it....costs alittle over a grand
