Go to Consumer Affairs and read what they have to say about these so called extended warranties.
They are a scam to put more money in someones pocket, it's just not going to be yours.

I agree 100%.
If something very bad is going to go wrong is usually does it early on in the game and will be covered under the regular 24 month guarantee.
Save your money.

Depends how many miles you will put on your bike. My friend does 15-20K a year (has 2008 and almost 40k) and things will wear at that rate. He bought the ESP and he alreadys has some issues that will be fixed under the ESP for $50 versus $100s.

I wish I would have had one this summer on my 07 RK. I bought it to late to buy the warrenty last year. I have had the bike in the shop 3 times this summer and Spent over $700 on it so far. No one could figure out the problem because it doesn't give and engine code. I think they found the problem yesterday, it was the injector wires causing it to cut out. I have put up with the problem all summer and have not been able to ride much. Don't know how the extended warrenty would have helped but I wish I'd had one to try.

The extended warranty cost twice that much. That's what Harley banks on.

I bought 1 year of ESP when I got my 2002 SERK and I am glad I did as the whole cam chest went toast and needed to be replaced. I asked what the cost would have been without ESP and it was close to $1000...all I have to pay is $50...I plan to buy another 4-5 years real soon.

If you are the kind of guy that buys the extended warranty when you purchase a new TV
or camera.......then just buy what your dealer is selling you.
If you are the kind of guy that tells the sales clerk to "go to hell" when you buy a new TV
or camera.......then you should be telling your dealer to "go to hell" too.

I do a lot of work on cars etc myself. So saving money on a brake caliper wouldnt really be a reason I would buy one. The whole reason you buy these things is in the case your engine grenades or your trans has a catastrophic failure. As far as Im concerned 1000-1500 dollars for 5 more years of piece of mind is worth it to me.

I never buy extended warranties on anything - but I did on my '08 SG. So far, I've had my heated grips replaced twice, rear wheel bearing (with towing), rear tire replaced with wheel and tire coverage for a nail - and then yesterday picked my bike up after having the voltage regulator, rear brake light switch, and compensator changed to the SE compensator. All three of the things yesterday were covered under one $50 deductible. The claim the dealer filed yesterday alone was $785 less the deductible.

So. . . in my case, I think I've just about gotten my money back with 13 months of coverage remaining.

It's insurance. It's a gamble - just like any insurance. The insurance company is in business to win. I bought it for piece of mind. And, with the issues I've had with my bike, I'm feeling pretty good about my decision.

To each his own.
