I have a 2010 UC, with Fuel Moto Stage 1 (pipes, PC-V, SE A/C), no other mods.
I was returning from Austria this morning, when I hit the highway and went to set the cruise, it would not engage. Then I noticed that the 6th gear light was not on. Everything shifted fine and sounds good. I pulled the clutch in, turned off the bike (main power), then turned power back on and restarted bike. I let the clutch out (still in 6th at highway speed), light comes on and I can use cruise. Happened 3 times today on 650 mile trip.
All that stuff runs thru the ECM. No sensor on the trans.
Maybe that plug at the ECM needs some attention?
Reaching for straws here.
Actually, it sat in the pouring rain all week, the first time. Today was the first time I have had her at highway speeds, been mostly in the mountains. I will give some attention to the plug and tidy everything up under there. Thanks.
It starts working again with the cycle of system (bike) power.
I used to run a PCIII that had an occasional issue after the bike got good and wet. Don't know if it was at the ECM plugs or internally on the PC.
Either way, a good long dry period took care of it.
I ran into the same issue several months back. I thought it was a short in the wiring and check everything and could not find a bad wire. I ended up unplugging the ecm, cleaned the contacts and put dielectric grease on the connection and plugged everything back in. The cruise and 6th speed light have been working fine for the last 15,000 miles.
It does not take but a few minutes to perform task and may take care of your problem.
