Default tread measurement

My tire warranty on my 09 unltra says 3/32 tread left for warranty to cover. Where do they measure at, the center? Do they take one measurement or multiple and average? I have right at 3/32 in the center. Am I at the mercy of the dealer? I think I have 3/32 at worst in the center. I have a nail in my rear and have the warranty. Just curious as to what to expect.

You've got it right. They measure on the center line of the tire. It should be the same all the way around provided you have not skidded or flat spotted the tire.

Do they measure multiple places or the shallowest area? Right now the one I checked is right at 3/32. The tire looks pretty good overall. If they measure overall I am OK. If they take the worst, I am screwed.

"Remove tires from service before they reach the tread wear indicator bars (1/32 of an inch tread pattern depth remaining)."

Quoted from Dunlop.

Yes, tread depth is measured in the center of the tire where most of the wear occurs. Hope you have a good relationship with the dealer.

I didn't know the tire warranty would replace a tire with a nail in it.

For the tire coverage they're supposed to take measurements in three spots (all in the center of the tire) and average them. How much do you want to bet that doesn't happen. Chances are they stick a gauge in the center of the tread and measure it once?

I do not think they would warranty a tire for road hazard's. Many would be putting nails in their tires. I think if they covered anything it would be prorated. Good luck.

Default Tire Warranty

My bike was purchased with a 7 year VIP warranty that covers tires. It was bought by the original owner who transferred it over to me.

I knew my tires were getting ready for replacement, and even picked up two about 3 weeks ago because of a great sale. I was going to have them swapped this winter.

Yesterday I picked up a screw in the rear tire and took it to the dealer. They measured 3 spots and showed me the measurements. Because my tread fell below 3/32nds in two spots they told me the VIP would not replace under warranty. They use a specific gage that is required by the warranty company and they needed to verify the measurements.

I would say goodluck, it's always worth the try.
