Unhappy Lost Volts

Ok HDForums! Point me in the right direction. Yesterday I was riding and the volts meter dropped to zero bike sputtered and died. The battery is a year old as of March of this year. Where do I start to trouble shot? Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks in advance ~Ohio Thunder~

Check battery with voltmeter and load tester.

You did not mention if bike would restart.

If the bike was running and dropped to 0, I would think a voltage regulator or stator failure (if all the connections and breaker are OK), and the bike's battery finally had insufficient voltage to keep the bike running.

Ok thanks guys for the quick replies. I'll keep you posted on my progress. The first thing I'm going to do is buy a service manual for my bike.

While yer at it, get the Electrical Diagnostic Manual too. While the Shop Manual has the wiring diagrams, the Electrical Diagnostic Manual has charted procedures for trouble shooting problems.
