I have the Harley branded battery operated gloves and they do really work well. They are expensive (about $200 if I remember correctly), but from the research I did, they were still priced competitively. The only downside is the battery life. At full power (you set it in 25% increments), they are good for about 2 hours of riding. At full power they also get pretty warm, so I rarely use them over 75%.

After my 33 degree ride today, I wished I had Gerbings (gloves, ajcket,pants, and foot boards) My buddy has Gerbings, great product.

I know what you mean about extra stuff laying around but after years of riding in the 20's on the way to work, my hands just couldn't take it anymore. I don't have a batwing. Got the HD/Gerbings wired gloves for Christmas. Only got to wear them once but they kick ***. 150 bucks. HD has apparantly decided to drop the battery/hybrid gloves from their line.
