Thanks for the info, I have a long screwdriver picked out to sacrifice. I'll work on it again tomorrow. This is another one of my jobs that should be easy but I'll turn into a real chore. At least I get to clean some spots that I can't normally reach (and maybe cure my handlebar shake).

I've been questioning this my self because so far everything I've done has elmininated that squirley feeling I get with the mentioned uneven pavement, grooves etc. I might have to look at this.....any other indicators?

I used a long (12" not including the handle) skinny screwdriver I had and ground the tip down and the wider part of the blade off. Actually kind of ground a little angle on the end. You need the end to fit up into the adjusting cogs and then be able to hit the handle end with a hammer.

I agree on the alignment and will be checking that, but probably after my trip.

That's pretty much what i did and it worked fine. Unfortuately, it didn't cure my problem. I, and a mechanic at the dealership agree, that it might be a tire issue. This shake only happened once when I hit a strange bump that set it off. I can reproduce it at most any speed by letting go of the bars and thumping one of the grips, which I don't normally do. The front tire looks fine but the rear has worn unevenly with most of the wear on the right side. The tires are Elite 3s with 15,000 miles. They both have plenty tread left. I think I'll keep them until next spring and try a new set. Hopefully it will be that simple a fix.
