Default Fairing Lowers =30 degrees

Just put my vented lowers on (also running a HD cooler) for fall riding. Its around 80 here in Mass.I put on around 200 miles today and I noticed my oil temps are up 30 to 40 degrees over normal. My oil temps are usually around 180-190 and today they were running around 220.Lowers Do raise engine temps.Imagine down south where it really gets hot?

I took mine off 4 years ago and never put them back on. It doesn't get cold enough to do it.

In NE my temps run same with/without lowers on. I plan to keep them on year-round b/c I like the better airflow (less buffeting) and lower leg protection.

Your oil should be running at 220-230 normally.......

Therma stat is set for 180 to 190 range from HD.I am sure they would have set it at 230 if thats what it called for.I remember reading an article on oil temps and it said 180 was ideal. In fact it said constantly running higher temps caused oil and additives to break down much sooner. A few yrs ago I went 6100 mi between oil changes.Sent my oil to Blackstone labs and was told it was good for at least another 1000. Without an oil cooler ,there is no way that would have happened.

Another way to look at the thermostat temperature setting is the temperature at which the oil cooler shuts off - or the point at which the oil shouldn't be cooled below.

Just run synthetic and don't worry too much!
