It is a sickness. You know you have issues when you compare all your household purchases to how much chrome , or tires you could have bought! My wife is always bitching about my "F-ing Harley $hit " . Can't say I blame her!
What's really sick is when you buy something for your bike and it turns out you already have that something installed on your bike. My most recent embarrassment was floor board extenders. Now I have a spare set for a rainy day. Good grief.
I bought an 06 ultra classic, rode it 3 days and now I´m in Afghanistan. I found this forum and started looking at parts on-line and now I have the sickness and I can´t even ride the dam thing.
as I just completed my order for Harley Goodies floorboard extensions and yesterday installed a set of Monster Ovals, I thought about the day I bought my bike used and thought to myself "I am lucky. The previous owner did all the mods I want or need". Yeah right. Since then I have added:
Oil cooler, chrome bezels, WheelDock Center Stand, Hog Tunes Speakers, passenger grab rail trim, chrome speaker trim, trailer and hitch, 8" tinted windshield, windshield bad, T-bag for the dog, oil temp gauge in dash to replace air temp gauge, chrome floorboard covers, smoked lenses all around, Monster Ovals with Fuel Moto fuel manager on the way, floorboard extensions on the way, chrome stereo trim, hand twist transmission dipstick, saddlebag inserts, tool kit, fork bolt covers, shorty antennas, even chrome valve stem covers. This winter I will probably get into the motor. I----Just----can't-----stop. Oh, well, me and the missus plan on keeping it a good long time, so it looks like the tinkering will not end anytime soon.
I may need an intervention but I know I am not the only one. :-)
It's not a sickness, it's just part of making the bike functional and your very own.
I know better than to say I'm done. Wife and I went riding on Saturday, and she complained about the bumps. Called about getting some Ohlin's today. Looks like I'm going to have to save my allowance for a few months, those pups are pricey!
