03 Ultra plug for the IPOD has gotten loose which causes lots of static. According to the Stealer my only option is to relace entire radio, when asked if it would likely happen again I was told that it would. What do some of your guys/gals suggest. I was told that the new Harmon Kardon system would not work for my scooter. Is this true.....
Sounds insane - but it's the only thing the dealer knows to do. Depending on your level of confidence/experience, either pull the radio and take the cover off to find out what got loose and fix it or send it to Iron Cross Audio for repair.
take it apart, and resolder the 3.5mm connector. They come loose all the time and they are big enough to solder yourself. Also, rethink the way you have your cable run. usually a right angle connector does a better job, and tie strap the cable in a way to minimize shaking.
Pops, the radio in your '03 Ultra came from Radio Sound. Call their customer service at (502) 267-6768. Iron Cross Audio does great work, but they're experts on the Harman Kardon. Yes, you can add the Harman Kardon to your bike, but talk to Radio Sound first.
Okay stupid question here but did you try a new cable?
I only ask because I had one cable that acted like that. It just didn't fit right. Other cables did.
Before you ditch the only waterproof radio that will fit on your bike, go to a reputable car stereo shop and ask for the iSimple IS77 FM modulator. It is a quality unit that is hard wired in and comes with a 3.5mm jack and also an iPod jack for those with an iPod. The iPod plug will also charge it while it is playing or plugged in.
They retail for $89.95 for the do it yourselfers. We install them for about $150 out the door. I think Best Buy sells them too.
Texas Fat Boy is right about the cable too. Get a new cable and lightly coat the end with white lithium grease. This may solve your problem.
