Default '09 Flhp

Hello everyone.....new here and need some input. Just sold my 1200 sportster and I'm now looking at an '09 Flhp with 19k miles and Abs brakes. Had the sport for a year and I'm ready for something larger and more comfortable. Can I put an Flhx fairing on an FLhp? The flhx's are a little bit out of my price range but not the Flhp's. I'm wondering why?

thanks, Joe

I am taking it that the FLHP you are looking at has the batwing fairing? Or is it a Road King model? If it has the batwing fairing then you can get a low windshield or the wind deflector like the Street Glide has and get the bullet turn signal kit to eliminate the driving lights. That will get you in the ballpark, but the Police bikes have a different rear fender and tailight/signals than the Street glide and have saddlebag rails too. Not too mention the seat being much different. Depending how much you want to change.

You might consider shopping around for an 09 FLHT Standard. Cheaper then the Classic's and you can add the stuff you want as you can. I bought a new one for $18,500 in Missouri with factory cruise control. Just depends on your price range..

FLHP is the Road King version (FLHTP is the E-Glide version). Yes there are several aftermarket "Batwing" fairing options out there for the Road King. They will not have all the gauges in them as on a FLHX but, will accomadate a nice stereo! You do realize the "P" means this is a police bike and has a few things diffrent from a standard Harley.

Welcome to the forums!

It's the road king model, without any windshield at all. Thanks for all the info. Nice looking ride you got there!

I have an 09 FLHP which I purchased new from the dealer for $15,400 out the door. It was used as a "demo" and had 10 miles on it. In my opinion, you get a lot more for your money when you can but a new FLHP at a reasonable (whatever that may be) price. There are numerous differences between the FLHR (standard) and the FLHP (police), such as 103 motor, heavy duty alternator, oil cooler, different seat (very comfortable, but I had to remove mine because of the height), possible run flat tires, tach on the handlebar cover, different wheels (they have Road Glide wheels), different handlebars (they have heritage softail bars) and different lid hardware on the saddlebags (which I really like) to name a few. I am not sure an aftermarket "batwing" will work unless you remove the tach. On the negative side, I wanted to install the HD cruise control, but the ECM in the police bikes will not allow this to happen. The service manager said they could possible "wire around" the ECM and "make it work", but I don't want to do that. I took off the police seat, radio shelf and related hardware, relocated the license plate bracket, and put on a Mustang solo seat and it is very comfortable and I can "flat foot it" when I stop. Also, there will be a few switches on the handlebar hardware which will not allow you to install chrome hardware, if you should decide to do that, unless you change everyting. I agree with a former post in that you may be happier going with an FLHR.

An ECM is an ECM is an ECM. I have an 08 FLHTP and all the dealer did was turn the crusie on in the ECM. I did not have to wire around anything. There were 3 wires missing off the ECM coming up to the Right Side controls that had to be run. Take your seat and tank off right quick, runs the wires and plug in the cruise kit and off you go. Instant cruise control. Don't let the dealership fool you. It is an easy job. If you need help I will give you my # and we can go throught the WD on the phone.

To the OP. A cop bike is a great way to go but 19000 miles on an 09 seems high. Shop around some. Remember you can ship a bike from ocean to ocean in this country for around 4-5 hundred bones. Good luck
