Is it me or do all newer Harley's make a loud "cur-clunk" after they get warm and you up shift and down shift ???????? I had a "97" Fat Boy and it never shifted loud, in fact I could only feel it shift never made shifting noises at all. My "06" Ultra Classic makes loud noises when up/down shifting. Everything is OK per H-D service dept., so I was wondering if anyone else is having this issue?????
At our dealer demo days (about every third weekend) I take advantage and usually ride 12-15 bikes. With very few exceptions all of the trannies cur-clunk into gear. (On the bright side....I've seen very few tranny failures.)
One thing that I have noticed...the looser the drive belt and/or primary chain the more cur-clunk. The quietest/smoothest shifting is right after I retension the drive belt. (I put a M6 primary tensioner in and took a lot of the shift noise out...as well and not having to retension the primary.)
The quietest shifting is generally at the beginning of the ride. As things warm up and expand, the noisier it gets. Ker-klunk is fine....gotta watch out for the badda-bing[8D]
