I read someplace that it will only work on the HD branded unit because the interface needs a digital signal from the GPS to do what it's supposed to do. I believe the HD unit has a different version of firmware to enable this signal out. I bet Garmin and HD have an agreement whereas this GPS is only available thru HD. Harley would not have offered this over priced interface if it would work with a regular 660. I bet if you plug a regular 660 into a new CVO cradle it will not work.

So you tried both versions of the Zumo with the NIM with the 19 and 31 pins switched and it still didn't work?

Anyone have any other suggestions?

Tried both, switched wires... I could get sound through the AUX while in that mode only and nothing when the radio played with the switch in the lower position or up and through the head set...

Aight, seems we both have one option left. *One person on here had his repaired by the stealership. *Seems something had happened to his stereo plug which was repaired and all was fine. *Guess that's my final repair attempt.

I bought the Navigation Interface Module (NIM) thinking that it would allow me to listen to the XM and MP3 player without using the front AUX port.

WRONG!

From the looks of it, I'll still have to run a wire into the front AUX port.

Here is the description from the HD site:

Road Tech™ Navigation Interface Module

Available exclusively for Harley-Davidson® Road Tech™ zumo Navigation Systems. The Navigation Interface Module will provide an integrated link between the fairing-mounted Advanced Audio Radio and a Road Tech™ zumo 660 or 665 GPS Navigator. When linked, the music volume will automatically drop when a GPS spoken command is detected, allowing you to hear the command through the radio speakers or the 7-pin communications-style headset. The module attaches directly to the radio, is concealed within the fairing, and does not require connection to the "AUX" input on the radio faceplate, allowing you to listen to a portable music device through your auxiliary input. Kit includes adaptor cable that permits stereo sound from the zuÂŻmo's internal MP3 player or XM® Radio.

From this description, it sounds like I shouldn't have to use the AUX port.

However, the kit comes with a splitter cable but there is nowhere to hook it up. I'm lost at this point.

Does anyone know the answer to this?

EDIT - I found an audio cable in the ZUMO box that plugs into the splitter and into the front AUX port.

Thanks for any help.

Steve
I read the description, and it clearly states that the only thing the interface will do is lower your music volume whenever a spoken direction is detected from the Zumo.. it doesn't say anything about running music through the navigation interface to your HK radio... it actually states that you can STILL listen to music through the Aux port on the radio.

pretty self explanatory to me.....

With my previous Zumo 550, I couldn't hear the prompts while listening to the HK stereo. I only got the prompts when listening to the Zumo XM radio or MP3. I had the Zumo plugged into the front AUX plug.

Now, my Zumo is fully integrated with my HK stereo. I also had the rear AUX plug installed so there are no visible wires.

When I first looked at the HD NIM, I thought it would eliminate having a AUX wire to the front of the stereo. That was my question. I found the answer by looking more closely at the directions. The directions don't make much sense until you get into actually installing everything!!!

That's when I decided to have Iron Cross install the rear AUX. Now I'm completely happy with my system. Everything works together seamlessly.

For $120, the NIM was worth the expense. I also spent $80 to have the rear AUX installed making my system "wireless."
