the NIM is worthless. My system works just as yours except I didn't pay the $120 for the NIM. You can remove the NIM and still get the prompts using the Zumo XM or MP3.
Now my dads system has the NIM but it's not working as advertised. The GPS prompts don't come over the AM/FM, CD or XM.

Hate to hear someone having the problems you're having with your dad's bike. You would not be the first person here who was certain they followed the instructions correctly only to learn later that they hadn't.
In any case, you might try the cvoharley.com forum for a solution on your
dad's CVO bike.
Hope you find a solution.

Maybe if we keep this thread alive, someone will figure out a fix.

On my bike, the 6 pin connector was connected to the the loom that came with the NIM. I also installed the iPod Interface Module which shares the same loom. I can't remember all the details beyond that. I just took my time and followed the directions that came with the NIM and the iIM. The directions are typical HD . . . difficult to follow until you get into things. I had a bit of a tough time at first but that was simply due to my own ignorance. I finally figured things out and everything seems to work.
I have two options to get this right:
1). The 6 pin wire has the wires that you integrate into the 35 pin HK harness on one end; the other two 6 pin ends plugs into the harness ABOVE the stereo HOWEVER the HD instructions are clear as mud as to WHERE they are meant to be plugged in. Granted there is only two locations they could possibly connect. This is one possible location
where i mademy mistake.
2) take the bike to the stealership to let them check the connections in the 35 pin plug for the stereo.

I'll say up front that I don't have experience with the Zumo style of GPS units. My experience is with portable units that I use on my hiking and backpacking outings.
Damn, almost $900 sounds like a lot of dough for one. Steve, and others, are they worth it? Do you feel you get your money's worth out of them?

Yes, it is a lot of money. Is it worth it? For me it is. I like knowing where I am and where I'm going since I do cover some serious miles in new areas that I've never ridden before. I also use it to find gas and motels.
I also enjoy the XM radio but that's just a bonus IMO.
I haven't used the 665 very much since the weather has gone South for the Winter. I'm really looking forward to some of the new features that aren't included in the 550 such a lane assist.
The way I look at it is this. If you've never used a GPS, you probably won't miss it. If you have, you'll always want one handy.
I having the 665 install on a 2011 road glide custom, after installing the interface module there is another kit that has a 32 pin connector that is needed to finish the wiring installation. The kit number is in the interface module direction. This was explain by local dealer.
