Default Vented Lowers installed on a Road Glide?

I need to know if anyone has installed a set of FLH vented lowers on a 2009 Road Glide? I have read that it can be done.

I am also aware that Harley makes different mounting brackets made for the 2010 Road Glide Custom that will allow the mounting of vented lower on an earlier model Road Glide. The new mounts raises the fairing up almost an inch and few degrees down in the front. If I went this route I am concerned that the painted stripe that is on the fairing and gas tank will not be properly aligned if I install the 2010 Road Glide fairing mounting hardware.

Can anyone shed some light on trying to do this?

Thanks!

I put a set on my 09 FLHX and installing should be the same. Mine came w/HD's quick attach kit ($95) and they're metal & large head screws vs. tie wraps & bolts. Should be no problem w/stripes because the lowers clamp to hwy bars & there's no need for adjusting.

Unless you change the fairing mounting brackets to the '10 and newer version, vented fairings won't fit your '09.

As far as the change in fairing angle altering the stripe lines is concerned, any difference wouldn't be noticeable IMO--shoot, I can't figure out the striping alignment looking at parked RG's with the handlebars locked or straight; on a kickstand or a center stand; or otherwise. There must be some very specific angle of view that permits those lines to line-up, but I haven't found it, yet.

I know of guys with '09 CVO RG's who have changed the brackets and haven't been concerned with the graphics on their bikes being adversely effected with the change.

Raises the question of whether you can order color-matched vented lowers for your '09 since the vented version would not fit the bike as delivered.

Good luck with your research.

I can get the vented Red Hot Sunglo lowers. When I do a search on the HD website for a 2010 Road Glide they pop up.

As far as the fairing stripe matching up with the stripe on the tank goes, if I stand back about 15 feet and get down at the stripe level they line up perfectly. That's really all that I am concerned about right now. That's if I get the 2010 faring supports. At least if I go this route I know that the lowers will bolt right up.

I have read a post about a guy that put the vented lowers from a FLH and had to make a supposedly minor alteration to the top of the lowers to keep them from rubbing on the fairing. The dealer told him how to do it and said that it was no big deal. I am pretty handy with the tool kit but I wanted to hear from more than one person that has done this.

I saw this product the other day. Should allow install of vented lowers on pre '10 RG without changing your angle. I was thinking about going this route.

I have the 10 fairing mounts on order for my 09 so that I can use the vented lowers. 2 of the 3 brackets have been on back order now for 2 mo and expected to ship on the 29th...this is what they told me last month.

Not a bad way to go. Humm,,, Keep the crash bars or get rid of them. It costs a hundred bucks, about the same as the 2010 OEM mounting brackets. Plus if you go with the OEM you will get a slightly cooler looking angle change with the fairing.

If you decide to use vented lowers on your '09 without changing the fairing brackets, do a "how to" since I'm sure others will be interested in what modifications were necessary.

no, this product eliminates the oem fairing mounts to 'clean up your front end'.... you can have them installed with or without the engine guard.
