Default Checking Primary Fluid Level

I know the book says that the Primary oil level should be at the bottom of the Derby cover. But putting the bike level, the oil level is even with the Cam Chain Inspection cover. Why does the Derby cover have to come off to check the level? It's much easier to just take off the Cam Chain Inspection cover to check the chain tension, and refill with oil. Am I looking at something wrong?

THAT LOCATION IS A HIGHER POINT IN THE PRIMARY AND YOU CANNOT GET AN ACCURATE CHECK OF THE FLUID LEVEL.

Unless it's leaking, why check it? I put in the recommended amount and don't touch it for 5000 miles when I change it. Also, using the Formula+ - like it better than the syn oils.

The book does not say to bring the level to the bottom of the derby cover......

It shows you that it goes to the BOTTOM OF THE DIAPHRAM SPRING of the clutch....

You got a Clymer manual or something???????

That would be a lot of oil if it was to the bottom of the derby cover, probably couldn't shift the bike or find neutral at all. The bottom of the diaphram spring like Bob said is where it belongs.
