I guess you have to have some confidence in product. Dad owned 54 HD and 47 Indian Chief when i was small but sold them in 63 when I was born. He and I used to ride all over the country until I lost him 4 yrs.ago. Miss the rideing partner but plan on still going on long journey's with no real time to be back home and remembering the good times while making new memories!!
Not to belabor the point, but stuff breaks sometimes regardless of how well it's been maintained. The ESP is especially useful if you're on a long trip, as it covers not only the repair, but the towing and motel charges as well. Your ride, your money, but knowing that I can pick up a phone and have my bike taken to a shop and repaired for $50 no matter where I am or what time of night it is is worth $17 a month.

I put 80,000 trouble free miles on my 04EGC. Not one iota of problems.

Bought the warranty on the 06 SE Ultra I had. Warranty spent at least 9k on the bike during 93k on the clock and four years of riding. Riding a 10 LTD now with ESP and so far not a hiccup with 22k on the clock. I will never buy a new HD without ESP ~ if you use it once they more than pay for themselves. I do ride ~ not that others don't ~ there are years that I top 40k. I but the ESP on HD becuase of the unlimited mileage ~ so far on the new HD's I have had every warranty has at least paid for itself, and up to five times more. I do not want to get stuck with a 2k repair bill 1500 miles from home. The $50 is much easier to deal with ~ not to mention Towing, Rental, and Room reimbursement. Just my two cents ~ the bike I have now has not sputtered ~ but I know if she blows after the factory warranty is up ~ I can eat the $50 and get the bike repaired. I do all of my own maintenance, change tires, etc. But with the use of sensors and computers I do not have the proper software to accurately troubleshoot some of the issues.

I have had 3 Harley's, 3 other bikes, numerous cars and have yet to buy the extended warranty. Never needed one either. The way I look at it, I have saved thousands by not buying the warranties. So I can just about buy a new bike and still be ahead.

I've never had a extended warranty and never needed one. The bike I ride most is a 2000 RKC and since I got it new, it has been in the shop a grand total of 1 time and that was a year ago when a guy hit me from behind. My 94 has been in the shop 1 time as well, but that was for a dyno tune. My old 84 shovel was in the shop in 93 to get helicoils installed because I cross threaded one of the exhaust flanges. My 71 was never in the shop till I traded it in when I got the 84. Thats been my experiance with new Harleys. If I ever get another new bike, I doubt I'll get a extended warranty.
