For the do it your selfers what brand and weight of oil do you use for the engine, transmission and primary chain at the 1000 mile mark. I know the local climate affects the weight. I live in middle Georgia. Thanks
You didn't say what bike you own, or if you are going to do it yourself. Lot of choices and opinions out there. I've tried most of them and feel like I have a good setup and not too expensive. I run Mobil 1 15/50 in the engine. I don't think there's any better oil IMO. You can buy it at any Walmart. I run Redline V-twin Transmission oil and Redline Primary oil. Great products!
engine Mobil 1 V-twin 20-50, primary HD Formula+, trans Redline V-twin Synthetic Shockproof Heavy
Sounds good.
I ran dino in mine until the 2 K mark, and put amsoil 20/50 in it after that. Top end seemed to be a little more noisy though, may try M1-VT the next time. HD Formula + Primary and Spectro HD 6 Speed 75/140 in the tranny. Quieted it down and it shifts smoother.
I let the dealer put their rec'd Syn3 in at 1000, wasn't happy with shifting action, hard to find neutral. Did the 5000 myself this weekend & switched to Redline all around, man what a chg for the better. For the first time since buying the bike I can shift into neutral at a traffic light. Never understood Harley's rec'ing engine oil in the tranny. Overall the entire bike is much smoother now.
