Trailers?
New to the forum and new to Harley! Getting ready to purchase my first HD, Street Glide! Cant wait to get it. I am fishing for some advice on trailers I can tow behind it. I would like to do some short trips and need a small trailer to haul some dive and photo gear. Does anyone have any suggestions, pro's / con's, things I need to know before purchasing one, things to be aware of etc!
1st suggestion is to get really good with your bike without trailer towing. The trailer will change your bikes ability to make quick corrections due to surprises in the road.
I had a coworker lose his wife when a semi pulled out when she was pulling a trailer, she lost control when bike and trailer jacknifed.

Two of the best on the market are Bushtec and the Uni-Go. Bushtec is a two wheeler and the Uni-Go is a single, and isn't quite as large. Both have good websites and both have several models available.
Hello , welcome to the forum from Oklahoma. I agree with jeepster09. Get used to the new bike 1st. (sorry to hear about your friend jeepster09) I have pulled a trailer for a long time, MANY roadtrips. A trailer will definently change your stopping , cornering & overall handling. SLOW down when pulling a trailer, keep your distance. And most of all ENJOY THE RIDES! I would recommend HITCHDOC for a hitch--(just a opinion) Ive been running those hitches for over 100k miles of trips. Trailers I dont have much of a opinion on, I built my trailer. Have a great time with that soon to be new ride!

I've been using a trailer since 1999, It's a Time-out DART with the cooler in the nose, love it. Sort of like American Express, never leave home without it
As for hitches, I've always used a Kuryakyn or Krome Werks, never removed anything using these......
Use some common sense when using a trailer, much like behind your car, allow a little extra room, careful pulling out of service stations ( the dips in the roads)....
Another issue, when connecting to your wiring, use something like the connector from J&P, no splicing, plug and play for a clean installation, plus, you can remove the connection and no one will ever know it was there...
As for trailer brands....go with one of the bigger companies, Bushtec, American Legend, Escapade, Timeout, etc.....the car replicas are cool too.

I am new to trailers this is my first year with one. Everyone is correct. You have to know your bike and how to handle it before you connect a trailer. I have been riding for over 20 years, connecting a trailer was a new learning experiance for me.
I chose a Bushtec turbo 2 because that was the only one my wives wheel chair fit into. It is connected to a 2005 Ultra. We just returned from a 2,500 mile trip that included riding the Dragon at Deals Gap. Yes you have to ride much different with the trailer but it did not stop us from going or doing anything. Just a little slower!
Check the web sites and talk to people you see towing trailers. Don't get one until you are comfortable on your new bike.

Welcome to the forum. We have an 05 Ultra and started towing a trailer this year. We have an American Legend and love it. Plenty of room and very well made. www.american-legend.com
I spoke with people who tow and all of them said it is as if you do not know it is back there. I was a little skeptical, but I rode over to Mahomet, IL from Columbus Ohio to pick it up and riding home I had to keep checking the mirrors to see if it was still back there. Tows great.
Good luck in whichever you choose.
