OK. I'm learning alot from all you guys in the business. Thanks for your valuable input. This is the way I render it down. Weather it's a AAA rig or one provided by HOG, I can for the most part rely on a decent rig and a competent operator. Now and then things may not work out so great, but that's the luck of the draw. My feeling from the beginning was that if I maintain both AAA and RoadAmerica one can back up the other. That's how it worked out for me yesterday, so I suppose my idea has payed off. Fine. I'll keep things just the way they are, but in the meantime I will work out ways in which I can get myself out of a jam without having to rely on outside help. My bike has laced wheels so a plugging kit won't work, but there are other options. Thanks again for all your responses.

I've been hauled by a Road America contractor once. It was within 30 miles of my home. Took them over three hours. I could have hitch hiked, hooked up my trailer and returned home in that time. I was really disappointed! Then the driver showed up with his girl friend and no place for me and my wife. Road America got an ear full.

Since that experience, I am listed in my area with SC ABATE and HOG Chapter for emergency assistance. I also haul bike and rider if they have too much to drink, home from two local biker bars.

Any other towers here to chime in, I can only speak for my corner of the world, maybe its different here in Washington from everywhere else but 2 hrs waiting on the side of the road is not out of the norm, must be all the volume that AAA has around here.
Jeepster, that $2.50 per mile is loaded correct, that means if the tow is 30 miles away & it needs to be towed 5 miles further away to the nearest dealer then the tower would be paid $50 hook + $12.50 for mileage, thats $62.50 for 70 miles & well over an hours time, figure in the fuel (even at 10mpg is $25), truck wear & tear, driver wages, insurance & exposure liability, our local AAA guys are running ragged & wearing their trucks out for peanuts.
Heres a link of some thoughts from former AAA tow companies AAA members from all over the country, its a good read http://www.itow.org/cgi-bin/ib3/ikon...58;act=SF;f=23
Here you get paid miles to the scene and towed miles.
I have noticed most of the bashers don't tow for AAA, perhaps it is out of being denied a contract for sub-standard equipment or community reputation. We inspect equipment and talk to the community around here.
We would pay miles to the scene, towed miles and hook up. 70 miles times *.** plus hook up. Also if extra time needed, if justified, would be paid on time basis.

Did you have spoke wheels you paid harley the extra 450 bucks for? This is why I never buy a big bike without alloy tubless wheels, I would have had those pluged in 5 minutes and tire pumped up and been off enjoying the day.

Whoa! Hold on thar! Lets stay focused guys. This thread is about towing and what our experiences have been. As for my laced wheels, the dealer threw them in at no charge. I do love laced wheels, but they come at a price. I can deal with it.

When I purchased my new 07 SG, the dealer offered me a 5 yr plan on my scoots tires and rims.

The plan covered everything, flats, hitting curbs, towing and even aftermarket stuff so long as you have the receipt.

The cost was $599.00, I said no........................
